The rock has some potential energy on the top due to the height of cliff.

As it falls from the cliff to sea, potential energy decreases with the equal amount of increase in kinetic energy due to the motion of rock.

Some resistance is also applied by the air which is considered to be negligible.

When the rock hits the sea water, the kinetic energy decreases due to the resistance offered by water and the kinetic energy decreases by transferring heat to the surrounding.

While going down at the bottom, potential energy also decreases with decreasing kinetic energy due to constant loss of heat in surrounding due to water resistance.

When the rock finally hits the bottom of sea, all left energies are absorbed by ground as heat.


Thus, the potential energy is converted into kinetic energy and then constant loss of heat occurs.
