The process of coagulation
Blood coagulation is initiated in two ways: Intrinsic, which is initiated inside the blood through trauma or exposure to a protein called collagen, and extrinsic, which is initiated outside of the blood vessel by damage to the surrounding tissue. Each initiation sets off a cascade of protein alterations and upregulations that culminate in the final common pathway and the formation of a stable blood clot.
