A continent is a large landmass. The Earth has seven continent: Asia, African, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. A region is a large geographic area that is defined by some sort of cultural, climatic, or geographic feature. One example is Latin America. Latin America is the part of the Americas where Portuguese, Spanish, and French are spoken. (These languages all descend from Latin.) Regions can encompass a part of a continent or more than one continent.
