Dp the following fractions form a proportion? (6/45) and (2/18)

Question:

Do the following fractions form a proportion?

{eq}\frac{6}{45} {/eq} and {eq}\frac{2} {18} {/eq}

Proportion:

In mathematics, proportion can be explained by the following mentioned equations :

{eq}\begin{align} \displaystyle \frac{a}{b} = \frac{c}{d}\\ \end{align} {/eq}

Here b and c positions are called means and a and d positions are called as extremes.

Basic Property of Proportion:

Product of means is equal to product of extremes.

Answer and Explanation:

Here according to the question,

The given fractions are 6/45 and 2/18.

Let's consider a = 6 , b = 45 , c= 2 and d = 18.

Then a x d = 6 x 18 = 108.

and b x c = 45 x 2 = 90

Hence the product of means is not equal to product of extremes. Hence the given fractions do not form a proportion.
