Explain 1 example of invention or innovation that was used, or is currently used, to collect more information on the continental drift theory and plate tectonics.
Plate tectonics is the movement of plates of Earth's lithosphere. Continental drift is the movement of these tectonic plates past each other to create earthquakes, away from each other to form oceans, and towards each other to form mountains.
Answer and Explanation:
One innovation that is currently used to collect more information on the continental drift theory and plate tectonics is the use of direct measurement of the movement of tectonic plates. It is based on measurements between two points on Earth using an intermediary transmitter. One example of this is satellite laser ranging (SLR). This uses two lasers on Earth each firing a laser to a satellite in space orbiting the planet. The beam is reflected back and the difference in the time it takes to travel measures the distance between the two lasers on Earth. Another example is using radio telescopes that measures natural radio signals from deep space which does the same as the SLR.
