The skin discoloration can be defined as the change in the normal color of the skin to specific to other colors due to the effect of illness, inflammation, deficiency, and injury. The discolored skin patches appear due to the differences in melanin levels due to these specific conditions.

Cyanosis can be defined as the bluish coloration of the skin as well as the mucous membrane. The peripheral cyanosis can be defined as the bluish coloration of the palms of hands and feet. This occurs due to low oxygen content in the red blood cells.
