Hence the power consumed by the appliance is equal to the rate of work done by the circuit.

For the power of the appliance is 100 W:

{eq}P=\frac{W}{t}\\ 100=\frac{100\ J}{1\ s} {/eq}

From the above expression the 100W appliance consume 100 J of energy in 1 s
