We know blood, itself, is essential to us. It is the carrier of nutrients, oxygen, hormones, and other things that our organs need to function daily. There is also an important part found in our blood – plasma.

Plasma is a light-yellow opaque liquid that holds plenty of vital components. It is the major component of our blood, more than 55% of its mass. These are the molecules dissolved in plasma and their function in our body:
- Fibrinogen and other coagulants help in the clotting of our blood.
- Albumin, globulin and other plasma proteins help in maintaining the pressure inside our body at 25 mmHg
- Electrolytes such as: sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, chloride, and calcium serve as our pH buffers.
- Immunoglobulins and other antibodies defend our body against infection.
- Enzymes have various different functions in our organs, mostly catalysts of biological reactions in our body.
- Hormones are responsible for physical changes in our body.
- Vitamins, which help in maintaining or improving the functions of our organs.
