ABO Blood System:

The red blood cells in the body contain markers on their cell surface that are inherited from your mother and father. The two most important types of markers used in blood typing are called the ABO system and the Rh system. In the ABO system, red blood cells may contain one, two, or no glycolipid antigens on their cell surface. The two possible antigens are A or B, making for the following blood types: A (only A antigens), B (only B antigens), AB (both antigens), or O (no antigens). The blood plasma contains antibodies called agglutinogens that react with A or B antigen not naturally present on one's own blood cells. For example, a person with type A would have anti-B antibodies.
