What causes tectonic plate movement?
Tectonic plates are situated on top of the asthenosphere, directly below the lithosphere. Convection currents of the viscous asthenospheric rock pull on tectonic plates and move them.

- Divergent - two plates moving apart - which creates oceanic ridges
- Convergent - two plates moving towards each other - which can create mountain ranges or trenches
- Transform - two plates moving side by side - this creates fault lines where earthquakes can occur
