How many triplane joints are in the foot?
Supination and pronation are especially important during the stance phase of gait. Pronation is a more flexible position for the bones of the foot, which allows for adaptation to an irregular surface during the loading response. As stance phase progresses into push off and swing, a supination moment increases the congruency of the foot bones in order to make it a rigid lever to propel the body forward.
