Is an imaginary number a complex number?

Is an imaginary number a complex number?

Imaginary Numbers:

We call the square root of a negative number an imaginary number because it is impossible to calculate it. No matter what imaginary number you are working with they are all written in terms of i, which is equal to the square root of -1. For example, if we were to look at the imaginary number {eq}\sqrt{-4} {/eq} we would write it as 2i instead. The math for how this is done is as follows.

{eq}\sqrt{-4} = \sqrt{4} \times \sqrt{-1} = 2 \times i = 2i {/eq}

Answer and Explanation:
