Isaac Newton:

Newton is most well known for his laws of motion which go through and describe in what way do objects respond to forces. However, his work didn't stop there, he did work on gravity, thermodynamics, and optics.

Answer and Explanation:

Newton's Law of Cooling: the rate of change of the temperature of an object is proportional to the difference between its own temperature and the ambient temperature. In other words the greater the temperature difference the faster it will heat up or cool down.

Cooling collision relates back to the idea that you can relate temperature to the average kinetic energy. So if you were to use a collision to slow a particle's speed, you could lower its kinetic energy, in turn lowering its temperature.
