Question:

Describe how the conservation of energy applies to a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Law of conservation of energy:

The law of conservation of energy is used to describe that the entire energy of an isolated system is constant. This law implies that it is impossible to create heat energy. It also states that the energy cannot be destroyed.

Answer and Explanation:

The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be produced nor be destroyed. It can be converted from one form of energy to another form. In Roller coasters, the large potential energy is due to the elevation of the car above the ground. And as the car(coaster) descends from the top of the hill, it gains kinetic energy due to the speed and mass of the roller coaster. Here, it is understood that the potential energy has converted into kinetic energy. As the train speeds up further, it loses and gains weights. Hence, the kinetic energy of the system converts into potential energy. This process repeats further, and the transformation of energy from one form to another is at regular intervals.

Thus, the conservation of energy applies to a roller coaster ride from start to finish.
