Alterations made to History Books:

During the Middle Ages all books had to be copied by hand. Historic records were sometimes altered overtime accidentally because hand copying a book was a tedious and boring job. A slip of the pen could easily occur without the scholar realizing it. Sometimes however, acts of maliciousness occurred. If a copier did not like the way an event turned out they would simply change the record. Only by comparing the altered work to an earlier version of the historic record can the change be spotted.
