What lies beneath the tectonic plates?
Layers of the Earth:
The Earth consists of several layers that sit on top of one another. The outermost layer is the lithosphere, and this layer is made from tectonic plates.
Answer and Explanation:
The lithosphere is broken into several tectonic plates that are composed of hard rocks. This layer floats on top of the softer layer beneath, called the asthenosphere. Recently, scientists have found that the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary consists of a channel of jelly-like rock that allows tectonic plates to move.
