What made the Roman Empire so powerful?
What was the Roman Empire?:
The Roman Empire began in 27 BCE after the first emperor, Augustus, was successful against rivals Antony and Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium. Following Augustus, Rome had more than a century of prosperity and success. In 117 AD, Rome reached its peak size under Emperor Trajan. After Trajan, Rome began to experience severe problems, including political corruption, economic stagnation, and outside invasions. The Western portion of Rome fell in 476 AD, but the Eastern Empire survived as the Byzantine Empire before falling in 1453.
