Fidel Castro was born August 13, 1926 in Biran, Cuba, and in 1945, he began attending the School of Law at the University of Havana, graduating in 1950. During his collegiate years, he joined in some radical movements, participating in a failed attempt to overthrow the government of the Dominican Republic in 1947 and urban riots in Bogota, Columbia in 1948. As an attorney, Castro joined the Cuban People's Party, and he was seeking a seat in Cuba's House of Representatives in 1952, when a coup put Fulgencio Bautista into power. Bautista's take over turned Castro into a revolutionary.
