When was the history of the Peloponnesian War written?
Thucydides was an ancient historian and Greek general who wrote about the first 30 years of the Peloponnesian War. He was able to provide a unique quality to this history because he was writing it as it happened.

Thucydides began writing the history of the Peloponnesian War circa 424 BCE after being exiled from Greece for a failure in battle. Thucydides' used his own experiences and observations as well as first-hand sources that he interviewed. His history did not include the conclusion of the war, in 404 BCE. It is speculated that he died before he could complete the history, sometime after 411 BCE, which is where his writing left off.
