Cesare Beccaria is remembered for his work primarily in criminology and to a lesser extent economics. Following the publication of On Crimes and Punishments, Catherine the Great became one of the first world leaders to endorse his work. His work influenced the Founders of the United States; both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were known to quote Beccaria. His legal work is also credited for influencing the US Bill of Rights.
