Erythroblastosis Fetalis:
One of the reasons a baby may be born with severe anemia has to do with Rh factor mismatch between the baby and mother. If the mother does not have the Rh factor but the baby does have it, and the mother has been previously sensitized to the Rh factor, then the mother's immune system may make antibodies that can attack and kill the baby's blood cells. This condition is called erthyroblastosis fetalis.
