Registering and Preparing for the FTCE
You can register for the exam online. You'll need to create a user account and answer questions about your academic background and experience before choosing a testing date. At that time, you can enter the codes for the schools or school districts you'd like to have your scores sent to when they're available. Once you've completed your registration and scheduled the exam date, you'll receive an email with a ticket you'll need to present on test day. You'll also need to bring photo identification to enter the testing site. Communication, music, Internet-accessible and photo-enabled devices, as well as calculators, books and paper, aren't allowed in the testing room.
In addition to the preparation resources provided on the FTCE website, we offer engaging video lessons in this study guide that encompass the complete range of topics covered on the exam. Test your knowledge level by using the quizzes associated with each lesson, and review the lessons to go over topics where you could use some improvement. Re-take the quizzes after watching the video to determine your level of comprehension of the subject matter. The quizzes give you the opportunity to assess your knowledge in a particular area and get you familiar with a computerized testing structure.
Scoring the FTCE
You'll need to pass all four subtests in order to pass the entire FTCE general knowledge test. After you take the tests, you will be able to see immediately the unofficial status of how you did on the three multiple-choice tests, which will show up as either a pass or non-pass. Within four weeks of taking the tests, you will receive more detailed scores for the multiple-choice tests. Since the exam includes a manually scored essay subtest, those results take longer to calculate, and will be available to you online within 6 weeks after you take the entire FTCE general knowledge test.
On the multiple-choice tests for mathematics, reading, and English language skills, the passing score is at least 200 points or higher on each of these scaled tests. You must score a total of eight points or more on the essay test to pass. You can access your testing history and score reports for 60 days after they have been reported through your online account. Once the 60 days have run out, you'll need to pay a fee if you need a duplicate report sent to you.
