Passing the FTCE School Psychologist PK-12 exam is a requirement for earning the certification you need to become a school psychologist in the state of Florida.

FTCE School Psychologist PK-12 Exam Preparation and Registration
This online school psychology study guide was developed by professional educators. The brief video lessons in this guide can serve as a refresher on topics you studied in college, and they could even introduce you to some new concepts. Included with each lesson is a self-assessment quiz, which can help you gauge areas where you might need a bit more study time. Additionally, the questions on these quizzes are modeled off those on the FTCE, so they can give you a sense of familiarity going into the exam.
Registration for the FTCE School Psychologist exam can be completed online. At the time of registration, you can choose which Florida school districts you want your scores sent to; scores also will be sent to your alma mater. An admissions ticket will be emailed to you following registration.
FTCE School Psychologist PK-12 Exam Scoring
Although you can receive an unofficial score the day of your test, it will take approximately four weeks for you to get official test results. You must earn a scaled score of at least 200 points to qualify for certification as a school psychologist. The FTCE School Psychologist exam is broken down into the following content categories:
Measurement Theory, Test Construction, Research and Statistics
This section, which comprises approximately 7% of the exam, gauges your ability to identify measurement and test construction theories as well as principles of research design. You might also have to prove your knowledge of terms and concepts related to statistics and show that you can interpret research findings.
Data-based Decision Making and Accountability
Around 13% of the test questions center on data-based decision making and accountability. This section might address appropriate data gathering, evaluation and monitoring methods based on individual situations as well as specialized populations. You might also have to show that you can make data-based decisions at the individual, group and system levels.
Child and Adolescent Development
This section accounts for approximately 10% of the FTCE School Psychologist exam. Topics covered might include cognitive, intellectual, personality and social-emotional development as well as language and sensorimotor development. Questions also might focus on various factors, such as culture, ethnicity, language and health, that can impact students' learning and behavior. This section comprises 12% of the exam.
Laws, Rules, Regulations and Court Decisions
Legislation that relates to public schools and school psychology is covered in this section, which makes up around 5% of the exam. This includes landmark court decisions as well as federal and state laws and policies.
This is the largest section of the FTCE School Psychologist exam, comprising approximately 15% of all questions. You'll likely be asked about individual and group counseling theories as well as applied behavior analysis and crisis intervention techniques. Questions on this section of the test also might address bullying, school violence and suicide.
Consultation, Collaboration and Problem-solving
About 10% of the FTCE focuses on ways of consulting and collaborating with teachers, administrators, parents and other specialists to address students' academic, behavioral and/or social-emotional issues. You also might be asked to apply your problem-solving skills.
Professional School Psychology and Ethical Decision Making
The final 8% of the exam addresses organization and operation of public schools as well as professionalism and ethics in school psychology. Questions also might focus on the history of school psychology as a profession.
