NYSTCE exams are used to determine aspiring educators' preparedness for teaching credentials. The business and marketing exam is one of several standardized tests required of secondary school teachers who want to teach this subject area.

Preparing & Registering for the NYSTCE Business and Marketing Exam
This study guide includes hundreds of video lessons to help you prepare for the NYSTCE Business and Marketing exam. Each lesson is taught by an experienced instructor and followed by a brief quiz. Use the quizzes along with the chapter tests and practice final exam to find out which subjects you've mastered and which ones will need some additional study time.
Registration for this exam must be completed through the NYSTCE website. After creating an online account, you'll be able to select a test date and choose from more than 200 testing centers across the country. The test is administered year-round, though it's recommended that you sign up for the exam at least a month in advance to ensure you get the test date and location you want.
Scoring the NYSTCE Business and Marketing Exam
Scaled test scores for this exam fall in the 400-600 point range. You'll need at least a 520 to pass. Answers to multiple-choice questions account for approximately 80% of your score; the remaining 20% comes from the constructed-response question. Scores for the NYSTCE Business and Marketing exam are released four times annually, in February, April, June, and August.
Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and Ownership
Test questions covering this content domain will require a familiarity with key managerial theories and the functions of operations and human resources management. You should also be able to distinguish between the different types of business ownership and organizational structures. An awareness of essential leadership skills is also required, as is an understanding of the pros and cons of entrepreneurship.
Business Law, Ethics, and Social Responsibility
Business law questions test your understanding of the U.S. legal system. You'll need to be familiar with the Uniform Commercial Code in addition to federal and state laws protecting the rights of consumers and employees. Intellectual property, tax, and contract law are also among the legal specialties covered in this test section. Questions on the ins and outs of ethical decision making and social responsibility are included as well.
Financial Management, Accounting, and Business and Marketing Mathematics
Your awareness of financial institution types and the government agencies responsible for regulating them is the focus of this content domain. You'll also need an understanding of basic financial management concepts in addition to an ability to analyze financial statements, manage payroll, and conduct other accounting tasks. A working knowledge of accounting software and statistics is also required.
Business and Marketing Information Technology
These types of test questions assess your ability to use computer hardware as well as operating and applications software to conduct day-to-day business operations. You'll need to be familiar with word processing, presentation, and database software, in addition to network infrastructure. Web design and e-commerce strategies are also covered here, as are strategies for adopting new hardware and software to meet an organization's needs.
Business and Marketing Communication
Business and marketing communication questions ensure you have the cultural awareness and interpersonal skills needed for successful oral communication. You should also be able to compose written communications using the correct format and develop useful business presentations.
Economics and Personal Finance
This content domain assesses your knowledge of key economics concepts, like supply and demand and the circular flow model, in addition to various economic systems and structures. Other test questions ask you to identify factors affecting economic growth and productivity, as well as the methods used to measure them. You should also be able to assess the effects of government policy and regulatory agencies on the economy and understand what it takes to make sound business and personal finance decisions.
Marketing and International Business
The marketing and international business test section gauges your ability to research and develop a successful marketing campaign that incorporates emerging technologies like social media. You should also be able to articulate some of the social, ethical, and legal issues associated with global trade. A familiarity with factors affecting a business's ability to expand overseas, such as trade regulations and agreements, resource availability, and opportunity costs, is required as well.

Your preparedness to help students match their skills and abilities to suitable career options is addressed in this test section. You'll need to be familiar with the resources available to help students study career requirements, develop a career plan, and prepare for the next stage in their education. You should also be able to introduce students to basic interview, job search, and workplace skills.

In this last content domain, you'll be given a writing prompt and asked to develop a response that demonstrates your ability to create suitable learning goals for your business and marketing curricula. You should also be able to design instructional activities and student assessments that can help students meet these course objectives.
