Preparing & Registering for the Praxis Spanish Exam
This study guide can help you review the important concepts that could appear in all sections of the Spanish Praxis exam. The videos lessons cover important grammar and culture topics, ranging from ways to ask questions and introduce yourself to an overview of Spanish sports and holidays. Each lesson includes a multiple-choice quiz to help you test your knowledge of the subject.
This test is offered in testing windows multiple times a year at locations across the country. You can register for the test by mail, over the phone or online. You will need to bring a photo ID and your admission ticket on test day.
Scoring the Praxis Spanish Exam
You can view your official scores online about 2-3 weeks after the test date. While each state sets their own passing score, your test results will indicate if you have passed or failed. Your results report will show the score for each section, as well as the range of possible scores and how many points were available in each section.
Section 1: Interpretive Mode - Listening with Cultural Knowledge
For this section, you'll listen to a variety of narratives in Spanish and then answer six questions about what you heard in each. There are a total of 36 questions that you must complete in 50 minutes. There is a 10 minute, 6-question practice session available before the start of this section. These questions are designed to test not only your knowledge of Spanish linguistics but also Spanish culture.
Section 2: Interpretive Mode - Reading with Cultural Knowledge
The reading section includes several excerpts from newspapers, literary works and other texts, all of which are written in Spanish. After reading each text, you'll be asked to answer a series of questions that test your linguistics and culture knowledge. You have 50 minutes to complete the 39 questions in this section.
Section 3: Interpersonal and Presentational Writing
You must answer three writing questions in the third section, which include writing a response to an e-mail or memo, writing an opinion essay and writing a response to a text that you are given to read; all responses must be written in Spanish. This section is graded on vocabulary, grammar, appropriateness and overall comprehensiveness. You have 50 minutes to complete this section.
Section 4: Presentational and Interpersonal Speaking
In the last section, you are given 15 minutes to complete three different speaking tasks. After reading each task, you have a few minutes to compose your answer and then you must record a spoken response. The recordings will be graded on fluency, vocabulary, appropriateness and overall comprehensiveness.
