TExMaT Master Reading Teacher Exam Information
Certified Master Reading Teachers in the state of Texas must demonstrate full knowledge of content to teach effectively and serve as mentors to other reading teachers. This study guide is designed to ensure candidates that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to take and pass this exam.

TExMaT MRT Exam Preparation & Registration
Use this study guide to familiarize yourself with the topics covered on the TExMaT MRT exam. The video lessons can be used to review familiar material or to learn concepts that are new to you. They cover topics such as alphabetic principles, vocabulary and comprehension development, word analysis, content and passage analysis and oral language skills. You'll also find information on instructional design, the interrelationship between language arts, material and resource selection, strategies for diverse learners, assessment and professional development strategies. At the end of each lesson, there is a self-assessment quiz so you can become familiar with the test-question format and assess your mastery of the material at the same time.
The TExMaT MRT exam is given twice a year (typically in September and May). Regular registration closes approximately one month prior to the test date. To be eligible to register for the MRT exam, you must have a classroom teaching certificate, at least three years of experience and have successfully completed an SBEC-approved MRT preparation program. You also must be approved to sit for the exam by your Educator Preparation Program (EPP). You'll need a Texas Education Agency ID available from the TEA website to then register online with ETS at www.texes.ets.org.
TExMaT MRT Exam Scoring
Approximately two weeks after your test date, your scores will be available online at ETS. A scaled score of at least 240 and a score of 3 or greater on the case study assignment is required to pass the MRT exam. Your scores are automatically made available to TEA and to your EPP; your score report is for your use only.
