FTCE exams are designed to assess the knowledge that prospective teachers need in order to teach in the state of Florida. The exams are for aspiring teachers who are going through the Florida teacher certification process, and the tests are administered by the Office of Postsecondary Assessment at the Florida Department of Education in partnership with Pearson Education. In most cases, candidates are required to pass the FTCE General Knowledge Test, and they're encouraged to check with the Bureau of Educator Certification (BEC) to determine which tests they need to take for teacher certification.
The exams are computer-based, and the passing score for most multiple-choice FTCE tests is 200. Performance-based tests typically have a minimum passing score of 4-8 out of 12 points. Candidates can register for the test online 24/7, and appointments are available throughout the year. Testing centers are located in Florida and other states throughout the U.S.
The 245-minute-long General Knowledge Test contains four subtests, three of which consist of 40 multiple-choice questions, and one that involves an essay assignment. Subject area tests are typically 2.5 hours long, and they can contain anywhere from 75-120 multiple-choice questions.
