About the TASC

The Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) is a high school equivalency test that measures test takers' readiness to attend college or excel in the 21st century workforce. This Common Core-aligned exam is the result of a partnership between Data Recognition Corporation and individual states. The test was developed using new education standards that ensure American students are competitive on a global scale in areas like science, computer literacy and mathematics.

The TASC is divided into five subtests: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Each subtest consists of multiple-choice questions and one constructed-response item and technology-enhanced item. The Reading subtest also consists of and up to 8 passages and lasts 85 minutes, while the Writing subtest lasts 105 minutes and includes 1 writing prompt. The Math subtest features gridded-response items and lasts 50 minutes for Section 1 and 55 minutes for Section 2. Both the Science and Social Studies subtests include stimuli and last 75 minutes and 85 minutes, respectively.

You are required to pass each subtest with a score of 500 to pass the TASC test. The Writing subtest also requires at least a 2 out of 8 on the writing prompt. By earning your passing score, you will have showcased knowledge and skills that meet or exceed those of approximately 60 percent of graduating high school seniors. The TASC is available at any state-approved testing site (including correctional facilities) in online and/or paper-and-pencil formats. In addition to English, tests are available in Spanish. To take the TASC test, you must be at least 16 years old, not be currently enrolled in and have not graduated from high school and meet other local or state requirements.
