12th Grade Literary Text Analysis: Homeschool Assignment

In this assignment, students select a short story and identify its stages of plot development, annotating examples of the writer's development of elements such as character, setting, and plot. Students then write a short essay analyzing the use of these features in the story.

Assignment Instructions for Students

Choose a short story from this course, or another you have read recently. Identify each stage of plot development within that story (exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) and annotate examples of how the writer has developed various story elements, such as character, setting, plot and point of view. Then write a short (600-800 word) essay analyzing the writer's use of those features in the story.
