Why Do Projects on the Digestive System?

When something has many parts and must be seen as one whole system working in unity, it can be difficult to grasp the intricacies of the thing. This is true of the complex human digestive system. With multiple parts all working as one unit to retrieve nutrients from foods and eliminate waste, the digestive system is complex in its simple goal.

These project ideas will help your students show their understanding of the human digestive system by building 3D projects based on the system as a whole. These projects are designed for students in high school.

Frankenstein's Digestive System

This project will require your students to work in groups to build working representations of each part of the digestive system.

Divide your students into teams and assign each team a specific aspect of the digestive system (mouth/teeth, stomach, intestines, etc). Allow students time in class to plan how they might build a working representation of their assigned portion of the system. Some examples are:
