9th Grade Non-Fiction - Advertising: Homeschool Assignment

Instructor: Megan Sarkisian
Students annotate three pieces of advertising and describe the literary devices they use to convey their desired messages.

Assignment Instructions for Students

Find three pieces of print or internet advertising (e.g., a magazine ad, a political ad, a film poster, a website popup or a sidebar ad). Annotate those advertisements, noting: the audience, the purpose (e.g., to inform, persuade, advise, etc.) and the devices it employs (simile, symbolism, imagery, etc.). Your annotations should contain an element of explanation - for example, why you think it is aimed at a given audience.
