Assignment Instructions for Students
Write an original poem - it could be about a subject important to you, or something completely frivolous. It could be serious, emotional, funny, or dramatic. It could be happy, or sad, or a combination of any of the above. It does not have to rhyme. You do not need to write an analysis or explanation of your choices (unless you want to), but you should think carefully about the poetic and literary devices you want to include. Use at least three devices to contribute to the overall effect of your poem. Poetic and literary devices you might use include: consonance, assonance, repetition, symbolism, simile, metaphor, oxymoron, and imagery.
