A Child Called 'It' Activities

Instructor: Tammy Galloway

Tammy teaches business courses at the post-secondary and secondary level and has a master's of business administration in finance.

Students will confirm their understanding of the impact of child abuse and specific details about the storyline after completing these activities based on 'A Child Called It' by Dave Pelzer.

A Child Called It Activities

The following activities allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the book, while integrating their opinions about the sensitive subject of abuse. Students will create a news reporting piece on child abuse, then construct a video on how to recognize the signs of abuse, and how and where to report abuse. They'll use social media to share their message and discuss their friend's reaction. The last activity encourages students to recall and create a timeline of specific event in Danny's life.

Newspaper Article About Child Abuse

Even though this story line takes place in the 1950's, child abuse continues to be a serious issue in today's time. In this activity, students will play the role as a journalist and write a newspaper article about Danny and his abusive mother.
