A Tale Dark and Grimm

A Tale Dark and Grimm (2011) is a young-adult novel by American author Adam Gidwitz. The novel combines several of Grimm's lesser-known fairy tales into one, united by the characters of Hansel and Gretel as they search for new parents. This novel gained attention not only for its engaging style, but also for its very faithful representation of some of Grimm's original fairy tales. This means that there is a good amount of blood, violence, and similarly unpleasant things throughout the book, which has a dark (if not comically irreverent) tone.
