If you are teaching your students about famous inventors, you will not want to neglect the inspiring life and works of Alexander Graham Bell. This lesson offers some activities that will help bring students in closer to the important work he did.

Why Alexander Graham Bell Activities?

While Alexander Graham Bell might not be a character who everyone has heard of, his life and works have important implications for students today. As the inventor of the first telephone, bell was a significant innovator and thinker, and he also worked hard to make life more manageable for people with disabilities. His life teaches themes such as the importance of caring for others, the significance of motivation, and the possibility for an individual to make life-changing contributions to society. One way to help students understand more about Alexander Graham Bell is by having them engage in meaningful, hands-on activities that bring them in closer to his life and works.

Visual Activities

The activities in this section are well suited to learners who like to work visually.

Draw the First Telephone

The telephone that Bell invented looked pretty different from the smart phones that students today are more accustomed to seeing! After researching Bell's most significant invention, have them create sketches of this initial phone. They should label their sketches to demonstrate an understanding of how the phone worked. Then, have them talk about how these phones are similar to and different from the telephones they are more used to seeing in contemporary life.
