This assignment provides students with an opportunity to show what they know about ancient Greek democracy by asking them to compose an overview and then compare and contrast it with modern democracy in a brief essay.

Assignment Instructions for Students

Ancient Greece is often considered the birthplace of democracy. However, the democratic government the ancient Greeks had some major differences compared to modern democratic governments. In a 3-4 paragraph essay, you will compare and contrast ancient Greek democracy with modern democracy. Your essay should include a brief overview of ancient Greek democracy, one paragraph where you explain one similarity between ancient Greek democracy and modern democracy, and one paragraph where you explain one difference between ancient Greek democracy and modern democracy.
