Anglo-Saxon History Lesson Plan

Instructor: Dana Dance-Schissel

Dana teaches social sciences at the college level and English and psychology at the high school level. She has master's degrees in applied, clinical and community psychology.

What is meant by the term Anglo-Saxon and why is it important in world history? This lesson plan uses a text lesson to summarize the history of the Anglo-Saxons. A class activity challenges students as it connects them to the material.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • explain the origins of the term 'Anglo-Saxon'
  • summarize the events that led to Anglo-Saxon rule in England
  • outline the cultural factors that emerged during the Anglo-Saxon era
  • analyze the fall of the Anglo-Saxons

Materials

  • Paper copies of the text lesson Anglo-Saxon History & Culture, one for each student
  • A worksheet created using the quiz from the associated text lesson, one for each student
  • Assorted images from Sutton Hoo
  • Small pieces of paper with a number 1 - 30 (or up to as many students as you have in the class) in a bowl
  • A six foot length of butcher paper
  • Fine tipped markers
