  • Sentences that contain appositives
  • Sentence strips or index cards

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

Warm Up and Preparation

  • Distribute copies of the lesson Appositives: Lesson for Kids and read the first section 'What Are Appositives?' with students.
  • Define 'appositives' on the board and take a close look at the accompanying chart and work with students to identify the additional information given in each sentence.
  • Have students make a similar chart, leaving categories blank in their notebooks.
