Atomic Models: Homeschool Assignment

In a short essay, students will describe the creation and features of an atomic model, as well as the advances in research that enabled new atomic models.

Assignment Instructions for Students

Write a short informative essay on Bohr, Rutherford, or Thompson's model of the atom. Your essay should answer the following questions:

  • What are the main features of the atomic model?
  • What observations led to this model?
  • How does the model explain those observations?
  • Why was this model replaced? That is, what new observations were made that this model couldn't account for?

This short essay should be between 300 and 600 words.
