Introduce your students to the composer Bach with this lesson plan. Students will read a text lesson that provides an overview of his life and accomplishments, discuss and interact with content, then apply learning in a project.

Warm Up and Preparation

  • Prepare students for notes on this lesson on Bach by having them divide their notebook page into the following sections:
    • Life Timeline
    • Early Years
    • Inspiration
    • Later Years
    • Legacy
  • Create these categories on chart paper or the board.
  • Have students turn and talk to a partner to share prior knowledge about Bach. Play music samples by Bach as they talk, then share ideas as a whole class.
  • Play the music sample again and ask students to listen closely. Afterward, have students share what they notice.
