Students will be able to identify the main characters when given quotes and character traits from Because of Winn Dixie.

MATERIALS:

  • Computer
  • Presentation software

INSTRUCTIONS:

Before class starts, type each quote or character trait below in a presentation on separate slides. Enter the name of the character on a separate slide, as well. During class, if you have equal boys and girls, separate them by gender, this will make the game more competitive. If you don't have equal boys and girls, simply separate the class in half.

Tell the groups they're going to play a Because of Winn Dixie character game; you will show the information on the screen and the group must guess the character. If group A answers correctly, they will receive 10 points. If they get it wrong, they will lose 10 points and group B can steal and receive the 10 points. If group B answers incorrectly, they will not lose 10 points and will receive a new question. Tell students, if they have zero points and get a question wrong, they can go negative, which makes the game more exciting.
