    • Discuss how your parent or guardian would have treated the family at the center of the story. Would you agree with his/her approach? Explain.
    • Compare and contrast the mother and father. Do you believe they are good parents? Use specific information from the story to support your answer.
  • Alice Wendleken
    • Which pageant role has Alice played for several years? Does she continue to play this role? If yes, is her performance satisfactory? If not, how does Alice respond to change?
    • Describe's Alice's meticulousness. Discuss how this personality trait can be a benefit and a drawback.
    • Does Alice truly align with Christian values? Discuss your rationale.
  • The Herdmans
    • Describe one of Imogene's effective bullying tactics. If you were a school counselor, how would you help Imogene change her behavior?
    • Imogene connects with a character in the Bible, explain. Discuss how this bond changes her communication and interaction with others.
    • Who plays the The Angel of the Lord? Describe the irony.
    • Leroy represents another terror in the family. Discuss the crime he committed. Do you believe the punishment aligned with the misconduct? Explain.
    • Why do you believe the Herdman children were mischievous and evil? Should they have participated in the pageant? Why or why not?
