Biology 101L Lab Syllabus & Information

If you have a Study.com College Accelerator membership and are seeking college credit for this course, you must complete the laboratory portion of this course as well as pass the proctored final exam. Below, you will find information about the laboratory portion of the course and how to complete it.

About the Laboratory Portion of Biology 101L

Biology 101L: Intro to Biology with Lab contains ten (10) required labs that students wishing to earn college credit must complete. This laboratory component is offered through Labster, which provides 100% virtual laboratory simulations. This means:

  • No mail-in lab kits or messy kitchen experiments
  • All you need is a computer with an Internet connection
  • Complete virtual labs anytime, anywhere

Accessing the Laboratory Component

To access Labster's library of lab simulations, go to this page and create a Labster account. You must register with the same email you use for your Study.com membership. Note that the account you create for Labster is distinct and separate from your Study.com account. For more information on creating a Labster account, please click here.

Once you have created your account, you must self-enroll in the Study.com Biology 101L course using the course codes provided in the table below. The course codes are created to provide you with 3 months of access to the simulations. Click here for instructions on how to self-enroll using Labster course codes.

You will need to complete payment of $40 for 3 months of access after you have created an account and entered the desired course code. Note that using more than one course code will result in additional costs. For more information about Labster payment, click here.

For the Biology 101L course, you are only required to finish ten (10) virtual labs through Labster. You may complete these simulations at any time and in any order, regardless of your progression through the Study.com course material. You will have access to the required labs for the duration of the active course code dates. Again, you will incur additional costs beyond the $40 fee if you use more than one course code.

The following are the minimum specifications for running Labster simulations:

Processor Dual core 2 GHz or higher
Memory 4 GB or more
Graphic card Intel HD 3000 / GeForce 6800 GT / Radeon X700 or higher
OS Windows or Mac OS
Supported browsers Latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera

Required Experiments for Biology 101L

Below you will find the names of and links to the ten (10) required labs for the Biology 101L: Intro to Biology with Lab course. While you are free to complete these labs in the order you wish, we recommend the following order as it most closely aligns with the progression of the Biology 101L course on Study.com.

Lab #1: Lab Safety

Note: The Lab Safety simulation can be found under the Archive section of your course, at the bottom of the Simulations menu.

Lab #2: Enzyme Kinetics

Lab #3: Protein Synthesis

Lab #4: Cellular Respiration

Lab #5: Photosynthesis

Note: The Photosynthesis simulation can be found under the Archive section of your course, at the bottom of the Simulations menu. If you cannot access the Photosynthesis lab, please complete either the Pigment Extraction simulation or the Electron Transport Chain simulation.
