Conflict resolution for kids is an important skill to learn, and books can come in handy in teaching this skill. This lesson provides a variety of these books for different ages.

Conflict Resolution

Kids experience a plethora of different conflicts at school:

  • Bullying
  • Relationships ending
  • Power struggles
  • Stealing and violence
  • Jealousy

The skill of conflict resolution is a struggle for people of any age, but especially kids. Trying to learn how to be calm and resolve the larger issues is really important, and if they do not have a good example at school or home to follow, the next best bet is through reading.

Conflict Resolution Books for Elementary School

In elementary school, conflicts may seem large to students even if they aren't. However, the struggle is still real for kids. The following stories are helpful in illustrating many different types of conflicts.

  • Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell - This story is all about bullying, and how to be comfortable in your own skin. This book demonstrates how to develop the strength to deal with bullying.
  • Enemy Pie by Derek Munson - This story is a positive example on how kids can not only deal with an enemy, but how to turn it all around and make them your friend.
  • Simon's Hook by Karen Gedig Burnett - This book is about a young boy who learns how not to take the bait of people who make fun of you. This is a great book for students to learn how to not get into a conflict.
  • Confessions of a Former Bully by Trudy Ludwig - This is another book about bullying; it stands out though, because it is from the bully's point of view. It can help students understand the behavior and how to avoid it.
