If you are trying to get kids to learn more about bugs, it can help to get them involved in science projects. This lesson offers some ideas that will make bug science accessible to children.

Doing Bug Science with Kids

Are you a parent or teacher trying to get kids more interested in bugs? Whether you are trying to capitalize on a fascination your kids already have, get them to feel less scared of bugs, or make the most of the time you have outside, doing bug science projects can be a wonderful way to enhance children's learning. When you get kids involved in projects, you let them access multiple learning styles and strengths at once, and you can encourage deep and critical thought that they engage in over time. Projects are often collaborative, so you can do them alongside students or help groups of kids work together. The science projects in this lesson are oriented toward helping kids learn as much as possible about bugs.

Bug Hunt

One of the simplest yet most educational science projects about bugs you can do with kids is a bug hunt in your community or in a nearby forest or field. Bring along magnifying glasses, sketching paper, pencils, and clipboards. Explain to kids that part of being a scientist is learning to use your eyes carefully and make close and thoughtful observations.
