Teach your students how to play 'Capture the Flag' with this lesson plan, using a text lesson that explains the rules and variations of the game. Put students' learning to 'play,' and test understanding with a quiz.

Warm Up

  • Divide students into pairs, and have them share a time they played a game where they had to sneak or move quietly.
  • Discuss as a whole group, listing ways to successfully sneak without being seen.
  • Tell students they'll be learning a game in which they'll have to use their sneaking skills. Call on individual students and have them stand up and demonstrate these skills you discussed, followed by whole-class practice.

Instructions

  • Title your chart paper 'Capture the Flag' and distribute the lesson Capture the Flag: Rules & Variations.
  • Read the 'Rules of the Game' section together.
  • List the rules of the game on your anchor chart, allowing students to provide material for you to list.
  • Have students turn and talk to a partner to describe the game and rules. As they do so, listen in to check on understanding.
