Cheerleading Lesson Plan for Elementary School

Instructor: Mary Beth Burns

Mary Beth has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grade and has a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently an assistant principal.

In this lesson plan, students will learn about cheerleading. After a station rotation with a focus on stunting, tumbling, cheering and jumping, the students will create and perform an original cheer.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify various cheerleading stunts and tumbling tricks
  • Create and perform an original cheer
  • Execute cheerleading jumps and hand motions properly

Curriculum Standards

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.3.1

Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 3 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.


  • A set of Concentration cards (you can make them with index cards) with the word and the picture of the following cheerleading stunt words:

  • Video clips of competitive cheerleading routines
