Conduction Lesson Plan

Josh has taught Earth Science and Physical Science at the High School level and holds a Master of Education degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Use this lesson plan to introduce your students to conduction. Students will watch a short video lesson, discuss conduction, and participate in a simple hands-on activity.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define conduction
  • identify good conductors of heat and electricity

Analyze the structure of the relationships among concepts in a text, including relationships among key terms (e.g., force, friction, reaction force, energy).

Materials

  • Cups (1 per group)
  • Metal spoons/forks (1 per group)
  • Tongue depressors or popsicle sticks (1 per group)
  • Access to hot water
