Lesson Instructions

  • Distribute copies of the text. Keep one for yourself. Read the text aloud to the students in a shared reading format. Pause at the end of the 'Using Coordinate Adjectives Correctly' section.
  • Now, post the picture of the girl. She represents Jaimie. Write 'smart, funny' and 'funny and smart' on a sticky note and place near the image of Jaimie. Have students turn and talk about other coordinate adjectives that describe Jamie (e.g. happy, pretty; pretty and happy). Record student responses on sticky notes and place them around the picture.
  • Continue reading. At the end of the reading, post the picture of the purple muscle car. Ask students to brainstorm three coordinate adjectives that could describe the car (e.g. sporty, flashy and fun).
  • Have students take the quiz as a quick, formative assessment.
