Cost of Living Lesson Plan

Instructor: Dana Dance-Schissel

Dana teaches social sciences at the college level and English and psychology at the high school level. She has master's degrees in applied, clinical and community psychology.

What is the cost of living and how does it change over time? This lesson plan builds upon a fact-filled text lesson to outline key points about the cost of living. An activity tracks the annual cost of living for each student.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'cost of living'
  • list the factors that are included in the calculation of cost of living
  • discuss the criticisms of the cost of living index

Length

  • 30 to 60 minutes for instruction
  • up to one week for the activity
